Will documentary still be around in twenty years? And if so, in what form? Part 1

28. 10. 2016
On the occasion of 20th anniversary of the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival we have invited our guests to join us in contemplating the future of documentary cinema.

Will the Doc survive? Will we survive? On speed in rush hour twenty years from now is an eternity in the cyber world. We live in its rooted future, a paradoxical future-present where the answer is “blowing in the wind”.

Godfrey Reggio, Documentarian

Yes, but exclusively in 3D.

Kateřina Šedá, Visual Artist

Documentary film will still be around in 20 years in the form of an orange cactus biting everyone's mongoose asses while sharpening chakroll pencils with their hairy nostrils in the middle of solar-lunar tragicomic eclipses ellipses aliases drinking putrid cockroach milk for the aged and unborn zombies flying dizzy in spaceships attacking godzillas and bambis in distress from too much grog.

Khavn De La Cruz, Poet and Experimental Filmmaker

Helena Třeštíková, Documentarian

But however big the changes might be, one thing will never change: the need and the wish of humans to see, to know, to experience the TRUTH.

Ulrich Seidl, Documentarian

In the next twenty years, documentary film – however we define it – will be more important than ever.

Thomas Elsaesser, Film Scholar and Historian
