Sleep, my good child

Poem

Sleep, my good child

27. 10. 2026 / AUTHOR: Naomi Kawase

Dok.revue publishes a poem accompanying the festival spot of the 30th edition of Ji.hlava IDFF. The spot was created by Japanese film director Naomi Kawase.

For the creation of the festival spot Naomi Kawase selected a lullaby from Corsica, France, from her personal collection of lullabies gathered from around the world. She then edited the song together with footage she felt resonated with its melody and meaning. Through this video, she sought to express her opposition to war and her longing for peace, conveying her belief that children who grow up listening to lullabies should never become soldiers who take the lives of others.

Sleep, sleep…Sleep, my good child.

My dearest child.

Even the little dove is asleep.

Grandmother’s lamp…slowly burns away.

As it has, night after night.

Sleep, sleep…

Your little donkey is waiting.

Tomorrow, you’ll go with Papa.

Our little knight…

still refuses to sleep.

Our proud little one.

Still, he has not returned.

Sleep, sleep…

My dearest one.
