Flowers and Dust

25. 10. 2026 / AUTHOR: Maryana Golovko

Director Mykyta Vlasov reflects on memory in his film Flowers and Dust: “on what remains between words, between a breath and an exhale, between creation and disappearance.” Dok.revue publishes a song by Maryana Golovko featured in the film.

Flowers and Dust

The sun has scorched this day.
We're in boiling water, like flies.
On the asphalt,
tire marks remain.
On a sorrowful windowsill,
the flowers in the house are tired too
in this stifling heat,
yet they bloom despite
the dust and smoke.

It won't fly in today…
The wind blows the other way…
Maybe your windowsill
is your springboard into the abyss,
but there are flowers there and dust…

So you dance salsa.
In your underwear, barefoot.
Your deepest desire
is your springboard into infinity,
but there are forgotten flowers there!
Your beloved flowers
and dust…
